As the creative force behind the look of the wildly popular 1970s London fashion store Big Biba, Thomas knows a thing or two about engineering excitement. “An act of bravery”Interior designer Thomas had already designed Hulanicki and Fitz-Simon’s home and the third Biba store in 1968 before being approached about the landmark seven-level store. “Fitz offered me two floors (of Big Biba) but I wanted it all,” he recalled of his initial involvement. Tim WhiteWhile Wintour’s shopgirl life was short-lived, Big Biba’s staff were a vital component of the experience remembered Thomas. In 1969, the independent company sold a majority of its shares to another British fashion retailer Dorothy Perkins which, in August 1973 (a month before Big Biba opened), was then bought by a property development company called British Land.

There was a certain intimacy to the crowds outside the shows at London Fashion Week, which turned 40 this month. Aside from conjuring feelings of togetherness and pride, that milestone underscored how the approach to style in London — off and on runways — is different than in New York, Paris or Milan. That approach can sometimes be written off as too funky or too laissez-faire, resulting in a perception that London Fashion Week attracts “not serious people” (to quote Logan Roy from “Succession”). But the event’s loudest critics seem to be those who complain about how, in other fashion capitals, they just see versions of the same thing. It is true that London’s fashion scene is smaller, quieter and weirder than others.

London CNN —Next season’s style brief is to channel your gray-haired nosy neighbor, according to designer Jonathan Anderson. Moments after unveiling his latest collection for his label JW Anderson on Sunday, during London Fashion Week, Anderson told a huddle of journalists that he was interested in the rise of nostalgia as he thought about women “doing the washing in their neighbor’s garden.”A model walks the runway at the JW Anderson show during London Fashion Week. Beyoncé approves of cowboycore

Completing her look were a pair of aviator-style shades, an embellished head scarf and a stone-colored cowboy hat. In fact, Beyoncé hasn’t been without a cowboy hat in nearly two weeks. On TikTok #cowboycore has 11.4 million views and counting, where users video themselves styling a wide-brimmed rancher cap or, as in one video, pairing vintage leather chaps with a belted trench coat. Cowboy boots, for one, were plucked from their country context and thrust onto the urban streets of metropolitan cities years ago. The embroidered leather boots have been a mainstay of the style set ever since, transcending over the years from a subversive statement piece to something more timeless.

CNN —Julia Fox’s press tour for her tell-all memoir “Down the Drain” has been in full swing this month, which means ample opportunity for the actor, model and newly christened author to go full on, well, Julia Fox. But on Tuesday, Fox stepped out in London in a look that can’t be overlooked: a literal plastic dry-cleaning bag, held up by a loop around her neck like a halter dress. Fox paired the garment bag with what appears to be elastic-waist shorts, J.Lo-worthy stiletto knee-high boots and a structured purse, all in cream. Julia Fox does dry-cleancore. Whatever the reasoning behind Fox’s latest head-turning moment, it fits the old adage that a model could still look good in a brown paper bag.

Have We Officially Reached Peak Ribbon?

The bow itself isn’t new, existing for hundreds of years across trends and genres in the fashion world for its functionality and whimsy. But Mandy Lee, a trend analyst, said it was hard to recall another time in fashion history when bows were center stage. “I think a huge factor in bows trending this time around is the sheer quantity,” she said. (A “basic” outfit with bows is an example of “Lana Del Ray” aesthetic, for instance, rather than boring.) Some people are “disgusted or enraged by the sight of ribbon woven through bread or cheese,” Ms. Park said, adding that there can never be “too much of a bow moment.”

Some people in the fashion industry think that London Fashion Week has become less exciting than its counterparts. During the shows in London, maybe more than in any other fashion week city, the streets are a sort of laboratory for experiments in getting dressed. The style can be so ahead of the curve that trends happening elsewhere are already considered over. Judging by the crowds, fuzzy sweaters that were tied around the body or worn in other unusual ways. There were also lots of neckties, often worn traditionally and by women.

German sportswear giant Adidas on Monday said it expects a significantly smaller operating loss for the year after recording better-than-expected early sales of its Yeezy stock, which it is offloading after cutting ties with collection creator Ye. The company also reported a slight outperformance in the underlying Adidas business and said it still expects underlying operating profit, excluding one-offs related to Yeezy and a wider ongoing strategic review, to roughly break even for the year. "If successful, potential future Yeezy drops would further improve the company's results," Adidas said in a statement, refering to further releases of existing inventory. That left the question of what the company would do with its existing Yeezy stock.
